I have a puzzle that has confounded me for ages. Ten or more years ago,
someone sent me
a photocopy of the first page of a biography for a Josiah Clinton
GOODWIN. The only explanation of the source was "this was in a file at
the Hood County [Texas] library." The only source clue on the photocopy
is the page header "History of Texas," and the page number 743. I've
looked at a lot of old Histories of Texas, but haven't yet found the
right one.
The article identifies GOODWIN's 1844 birth in Talladega, Alabama; gives
his parentage; mentions Confederate service. The last date mentioned on
the page is 1867, so the publication date must be sometime after 1867.
Anybody have ideas to track down this mystery history book?

re; family of Laura Alice JOHNSON ORR
On the back of an old family picture Laura Alice JOHNSON Orr (born
Mambrino, Hood Co., Texas, died 1906) is listed as the
mother of Henry Thomason ORR,
Dolly ";Aunt Blue"; CAVASOS (it is not known whether this is her
middle name or her married name), and Carlinda? Catherine
"Kate"; ORR.
"Kate"; ORR (1883-1969) married my grandfather James Peak?
"Jim"; STALCUP (1876-1928).
According to family history ";Jim"; STALCUP was a teacher at an
Indian Reservation (now defunct) near Cleburn, Johnson Co.,
Texas.
Hood County records show an Henry T. ORR, (T. for Thomason?) who died in
1937, as father of Fannie ORR (b. 1883) who later
married H. W. HUDGINS in 1899, and Kate ORR (b. 1888).
Hood Co. records also show a J. M. ORR and his wife Gracie CHEEK as
parents of Zelma Anzanetta ORR (b. 1907) and another daughter
ORR (b. 1905).
Hood Co. records show two Gracie CHEEKs, Gracie (b. 1883), dau.
of S. J. CHEEK, and Gracie (b. 1889), dau. of J. T. CHEEK and
C. I. LAXTON (who married in 1887).
Does anyone have any information about CAVASOS, JOHNSONs, ORRs, STALCUPs
and/or CHEEKs who lived in Hood Co., Texas or Johnson
Co., Texas in the late 1800's, or any information which would
help me sort out their descendants?
