Today's fourth annual Healthy Woman Anniversary event brings the return of humorist and motivational speaker Suzie Humphreys. The event begins at 4 p.m. with a free women's expo at the Granbury Resort Conference Center, 621 E. Pearl St. The expo is followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and the keynote speaker at 7:15.The annual event always draws a crowd. Healthy Woman is a program sponsored by Lake Granbury Medical Center.
Rainfall brings no road closures, emergencies reported so far in Hood County

Hood County officials have not reported any road closures or emergency situations caused by the rainfall from Tropical Storm Hermine, which was downgraded to a tropical depression Tuesday night. Fort Worth, Arlington and other cites in the area are dealing with flooding. Hood County rainfall totals reported as of Wednesday morning were 5.1 inches at Pecan Plantation, 4.25 inches in Tolar, 3.8 inches at the Granbury Regional Airport, 3 inches at Lipan and 2.02 at Cresson.
Hood County Library set for genealogical workshop on Friday

The public is invited to a free genealogical workshop, scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Hood County Library, 222 North Travis Street, in Granbury. Yvonne Ables of the Hood County Genealogical Society is slated to speak, and will also answer questions and show examples of how U.S. census records can be used in such research.
Voting helps United Way

It's time to cast your vote for the Granbury Oscars. Local residents are competing for the “Oscar” award as part of a fundraiser for the United Way of Hood County. Performances are planned at the United Way's Night at the Oscars event Friday Sept. 17 at the Granbury Resort Conference Center. For more information call 817-579-5100. Early voting has started for the following contestants:
* Police chief Mitch Galvan and his wife Sara will be dancing as John Travolta and Karen Lynn Gorney from “Saturday Night Fever.” Voting jar is at City Hall, Bridge Street.
* Mary Ward and dance partner Kyle Watson will perform the theme dance from “All That Jazz.” Voting jar is at Southwest Securities, 1100 E. Highway 377.
* Bert Johnson will be performing as the debonair Rex Harrison from “Dr. Doolittle.” Voting jar is at Granbury First United Methodist Church, 301 Loop 567.
* Granbury High School senior Alysia Murphy will sing “My Heart Will Go On,” the theme song from Titanic, made famous by Celine Dion. Voting jar is at Chicken Express, Highway 377.
* The Historic Granbury Gunslingers will perform a scene from “Cat Ballou.” Voting is at Pearl Street Station, at the corner of Pearl and Lambert streets, just west of the square.

Ballots for these and over 90 other categories are available in the Wednesday and Saturday editions of the Hood County News. Hurry and vote -- deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17. Barbershop harmony planned at concert

Texas Millionaires, a popular Fort Worth men’s a capella chorus, will kick off the 2010-11 Music at Acton season with a concert on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 19 at 3 p.m. at Acton United Methodist Church, 3433 Fall Creek Highway. The Texas Millionaires perform music based on the four-part close harmony of barbershop-style singing. They are part of the Barbershop Harmony Society, an international organization.
