Cleburne man charged with felony drug count

Sidney Bryan Marchman, 35, of Cleburne, was arrested Aug. 28 by a Granbury police officer during a traffic stop on Highway 377 East in Granbury and charged with a state jail felony count of possession of a controlled substance, Penalty Group 1, less than 1 gram, according to police captain Alan Hines. The substance was believed to be methamphetamine, Hines said.
Burglary on Hayworth Highway is crime of week

A burglary that occurred sometime between Aug. 23 and Aug. 27 on Hayworth Highway is the latest Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week. Items reported stolen were a Patriot 8,000-watt generator, Patriot air compressor, Patriot pressure sprayer, Poulan 20-inch chain saw and a Norcent 48-inch flat-screen television. Anyone with information on the burglary should call 817-573-TIPS. You will remain anonymous. If the tip leads to an arrest, you could receive a cash reward of up to $1,000.
Gilmore trial date set

The trial of former tax assessor-collector Sandy Tidwell Gilmore, who faces two felony counts of misuse of official information, is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 27, in judge Ralph Walton's 355th district court. The charges are tied to Gilmore's alleged actions during an election campaign. For each charge, she could face two to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Today's fourth annual Healthy Woman Anniversary event brings the return of humorist and motivational speaker Suzie Humphreys. The event begins at 4 p.m. with a free women's expo at the Granbury Resort Conference Center, 621 E. Pearl St. The expo is followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and the keynote speaker at 7:15.The annual event always draws a crowd. Healthy Woman is a program sponsored by Lake Granbury Medical Center.
Rainfall brings no road closures, emergencies reported in Hood County

Hood County officials have not reported any road closures or emergency situations caused by the rainfall from Tropical Storm Hermine, which was downgraded to a tropical depression Tuesday night. Fort Worth, Arlington and other cites in the area are dealing with flooding. Hood County rainfall totals reported as of Wednesday morning were 5.1 inches at Pecan Plantation, 4.25 inches in Tolar, 3.8 inches at the Granbury Regional Airport, 3 inches at Lipan and 2.02 at Cresson.
Hood County Library set for genealogical workshop on Friday

The public is invited to a free genealogical workshop, scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Hood County Library, 222 North Travis Street, in Granbury. Yvonne Ables of the Hood County Genealogical Society is slated to speak, and will also answer questions and show examples of how U.S. census records can be used in such research.
Voting helps United Way

 It's time to cast your vote for the Granbury Oscars. Local residents are competing for the “Oscar” award as part of a fundraiser for the United Way of Hood County. Performances are planned at the United Way's Night at the Oscars event Friday Sept. 17 at the Granbury Resort Conference Center. For more information call 817-579-5100. Early voting has started for the following contestants:
* Police chief Mitch Galvan and his wife Sara will be dancing as John Travolta and Karen Lynn Gorney from “Saturday Night Fever.” Voting jar is at City Hall, Bridge Street.
* Mary Ward and dance partner Kyle Watson will perform the theme dance from “All That Jazz.” Voting jar is at Southwest Securities, 1100 E. Highway 377.
* Bert Johnson will be performing as the debonair Rex Harrison from “Dr. Doolittle.” Voting jar is at Granbury First United Methodist Church, 301 Loop 567.
* Granbury High School senior Alysia Murphy will sing “My Heart Will Go On,” the theme song from Titanic, made famous by Celine Dion. Voting jar is at Chicken Express, Highway 377.
* The Historic Granbury Gunslingers will perform a scene from “Cat Ballou.” Voting is at Pearl Street Station, at the corner of Pearl and Lambert streets, just west of the square.
