Twelve Desert Storm veterans are scheduled to serve as grand marshals in the July 4th parade so far.

Lonnie Renaud, David Plotkowski, Johnny Berry, Joe McCoy, Wesley Sims, Al Graham, Mark Moen, David Trimble, Richard Carr, Kenny Sleese, Bobby Boltin and Elysa Drillette will be riding in this year's parade.

Organizers were still trying to contact more Desert Storm veterans at press time to ride in the parade.

Residents want to honor them in the parade for their courage and dedication in Operation Desert Storm, said chamber official Jeanelle Tuuk.

A number of veterans will be riding in the jeeps of a World War II reenactment group that will be participating in the parade, organizers said.

Over 80 service men and women from Hood County or who have families in Hood County served in the recent Persian Gulf war. All returned safely.

Parade organizers are still seeking other Desert Storm heroes to serve as grand marshals in the parade.
