FRANCIS MARION EDENS

1826 - 1903

Francis Marion Edens was born January 21, 1826 in McMinn, Tennessee.  He married Mary Emmiline Elizabeth Anglin on July 31, 1856 at Fields Chapel in Henderson, Texas.  They had the following 13 children:

*  William Lafayette Edens (my grandfather)

*  Josephine S. Edens; married F.M. Winslett February 19, 1880

*  Laura A. Edens; married W.M. Burgess January 29, 1882

*  Valentine Edens (male)

*  Elizabeth (Lizzie) Edens; married J.T. Price November 25, 1886

*  Milton H. Edens

*  Hue B. Edens

*  Herbert Edens

*  Eddie C. Edens; married J.E. Miller April 20, 1882

*  Lewis Edens

*  George Edens

 

According to the 1867-1869 Hood County Voters Registration, F.M. Edens came to Texas in 1857 and moved to Hood County in 1860.

Edens served in the War of Northern Aggression.  He went in the Confederate States Army as a Private from Lee County, Tennessee.  Edens served in Company E, 1st Regiment, Tennessee Infantry (Turney's).  When he was discharged, Edens was still a Private.

In 1887 Francis Marion Edens was listed as a Master Mason in Acton Lodge No. 285

A Confederate Pension Application was filed in Moore County, Tennessee - Pension No. 12345.

Francis Marion and Mary Edens youngest child, George, died the day he was born, on April 12, 1878.  This child was the first burial in the Nubbin Ridge Cemetery in Hood County, Texas.

Francis Marion Edens died May 3, 1903 in Granbury, Texas.  He was buried in Nubbin Ridge Cemetery next to his infant son, George.
