Levi Fine, Jr.

 

Levi Fine, Jr. was born in 1816 in Tennessee.  His parents were Levi Fine, Sr. and Nancy Oden.

 

Levi Fine, Jr. married Clarrissa Louisa Reynolds who was born in 1824 in Illinois, according to family Bible records.

 

Levi and Clarrissa had eleven children as follows:

 

1.     Mary L. Fine b. 1844 Republic of Texas.  Married Mr. Coleman.

2.     Nancy A. Fine b. 1847 Texas.  Married John O’Neal 11/02/1865 Lavaca County, Texas.

3.     Sarah Fine b. 1848 Texas.

4.     Lucy Fine b. 1852 Texas.

5.     John Stephen Fine b. 02/13/1855 Lavaca County, Texas. (see details below)

6.     Samuel Bartlett Fine b. 1847 Texas d. 1877 leaving a wife and son, John Delmar Fine.

7.     Henry A. Fine b. 1863 Texas. Married Mattie Morton 09/02/1882 Llano County, Texas.  Children: Wesley, John, Otis, Ida, Rosa, Nettie, Lizza & Josephine.

8.     Wesley Fine b. 1866 Texas. Children: George, Jim, Carl, Ola & Desdemonia.

9.     Ida Viola Fine b. 1868 Llano County, Texas.  Married Charles T. Brady.  Children: Ethel, Freddie & Bessie.

10. Benjamin Fine (Bennie) b. 1870 Texas.

11. Emma Fine b. ~1872.  Married Mr. Jennings.  Children: Lizza, Ernest, Marion & Willie.

 

The 1850 Texas census finds Levi Fine and his family living in Jackson County, in southeastern Texas.  The family was indicated as follows:

John Stephen Fine, Levi and Clarrissa’s fifth child, married Julia A. Davis who was born in Alabama on August 17, 1849.  John Stephen Fine died in the 1940’s.  Both he and his wife were buried in Loraine, Mitchell County, Texas.  They had the following eleven children:

 

1.     Sarah E. Fine b. 06/25/1873 Scott County, Arkansas d. 02/22/1892 burial Rough Creek Cemetery, Hood County, Texas.

2.     Mary Ophelia Fine b. 06/04/1875 Llano County, Texas.  Married Smith Aaron Browning 03/29/1903 Hood County, Texas.

3.     John William Fine (Bill) b. 12/02/1876 Llano County, Texas.

4.     Joseph Richard Fine (Joe) b. 11/02/1878 Llano County, Texas.  Died 06/1927.  Survivors were his wife and five daughters.

5.     Annie Eliza Fine b. 08/01/1880 Llano County, Texas d. 10/18/1932 or 1952.

6.     George Henry Fine b. 07/20/1882 Llano County, Texas.  Died 04/03/1963 Weatherford, Parker County, Texas.  He was a Methodist minister.  Survivors were his wife Susie, daughter Mrs. Robert Norton, and son Calvin Fine of Ardmore, Oklahoma.

7.     [Twin] James Levi Fine (Jim) b. 10/22/1884 Llano County, Texas d. 04/16/1938.  Married Marinda Kerr 12/06/1903 Hood County, Texas.

8.     [Twin] Martha Jane Fine (Mattie) b. 10/22/1884 Llano County, Texas.  Married J.H. Robb 12/27/1903 Hood County, Texas.

9.     Odella Kay Fine (Della) b. 11/07/1887 Mason County, Texas. Married Claude Doyle Rylee 12/18/1904 Hood County, Texas.

10. [Twin] Lena Fine b. 03/19/1890 Hood County, Texas d. 09/1982 Odessa, Ector County, Texas.  Married Mr. Collier.

11. [Twin] Rena Fine b. 03/19/1890 Hood County, Texas.  Married Mr. Smith.

 

Many of Levi Fine’s grandchildren attended school in Hood County.  They were the children of John Stephen Fine and Henry A. Fine.  The following records have survived:

Clarrissa Reynolds Fine died March 18, 1900 from measles and was buried in Rough Creek Cemetery in Hood County, Texas.  Three years later, Levi Fine died on June 5, 1903 and was buried next to Clarrissa.
