Voters to determine races (Posted Today 09:24 pm)
Voters go to the polls Saturday in school board and municipal elections. Voting is from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The headline race pits civic-minded Julia Pannell against Granbury school incumbent Barbara Herrington. Voting sites are County Annex I, Lake Granbury Christian Temple, Treaty Oaks Community Center, Acton Baptist Church and Tolar Fire Department. For details see Wednesday's or Saturday's Hood County News. Check back at this site this evening for results.

Let's rodeo! (Posted Today 11:06 am)
Let's rodeo! Professional cowboys and cowgirls will be competing Friday and Saturday nights in the second annual Hood County Sheriff's Rodeo at the Granbury Reunion Grounds. Gates open at 6; events begin at 8. Tickets are available at the gate.

Warm, dry days forecast (Posted Thu 03:12 pm)
No rain at least through next Wednesday. That's the forecast from the National Weather Service. It will be warm too, with the high Friday near 90 and a toasty 95 on Saturday. It will cool a bit on Mother's Day with a high in the upper 70s. 

It was actually a machete at school (Posted Thu 02:55 pm)
Granbury High maintenance workers notified the school's resource officer Wednesday when they saw what they thought were four youths in the parking lot displaying a firearm. The firearm turned out to be an orange-tipped aerosal can. However, the officer observed what he confirmed to be a machete in a vehicle. No citations were issued. Discipline will be handled by the school district, as possessing a weapon on school property is a violation of school code.

Get rid of the big junk Saturday (Posted Thu 02:40 pm)
Saturday's the day to finally get rid of that ratty couch or broken refrigerator. The Hood County Bulky Waste Disposal Day is from 8-2 at 244 Bray Street, just west of Granbury near the county's animal control building. Bray Street is off Highway 377, west of Coke Court. Drivers need to show their driver's license to prove residency.

Leave canned goods by your mailbox Saturday (Posted Thu 12:34 pm)
Don't forget to leave non-perishable food by your mailbox Saturday. The National Association of Letter Carriers will be picking up food Saturday as they make their rounds. The food is given to People Helping People for distribution to families in Hood County.

Gilmore case goes to attorney general (Posted Tue 01:05 pm)
The Texas Attorney General's office will investigate allegations of wrongdoing by tax assessor Sandy Tidwell Gilmore relating to her releasing a candidate's tax lien document that may have subjected the county to a federal lawsuit.   

Animals waiting to become pets (Posted Sun 08:04 am)
Loving animals need your help. In conjunction with Hood County Animal Control, the Tractor Supply Company will offer its first pet adoption day Saturday from 10-2. It includes low-cost pet vaccinations.

Tolar relay running at state (Posted Thu 02:24 pm)
The Tolar Rattlers' 800-meter relay will compete Saturday at the UIL State Track and Field Meet at the University of Texas at Austin. The event is set for 1:35 p.m.
The Rattlers qualified for state by winning the Class A Region II Meet at Abilene Christian University with a school-record time of 1:31.75. The relay consists of Zack Crocker, Juan Triana, Austin Hattox and Marcus Armstrong with alternates Danie Gamez and Eugene Musick.
All eight teams that qualified for the state finals are within two seconds of each other.


Pitch, Hit & Run (Posted Today 11:33 am)
Signature Kids Pitch, Hit & Run Contest will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Granbury City Park Field No. 4 (behind the Dana Vollmer Municipal Swim Center). The event is for youths ages 7-14. Winners will advance to sectional competition next weekend in Mansfield.


CPR training (Posted 4/20/2008 09:37 am)
The public is invited to help plan a countywide initiative to teach lifesaving CPR to youths and adults. The first planning session is Tuesday morning at 10, May 13 in the Annex I conference room, 1410 W. Pearl.
