Wildfires explode Friday afternoon
 (Posted 7/10/2009 04:20 pm)
In the space of about 10 minutes, starting around 2:40 Friday afternoon, firefighters were called out to attack four wildfires. They were on Meander Road, northeast of Granbury, Mambrino Highway, south of Granbury, and northeast of Highway 377 near Bluff Dale. Radio traffic was unclear on the site of the fourth blaze, but it, along with the Mambrino fire, was handled quickly. The Meander and Mambrino fires threatened structures. Radio traffic indicated a hay barn and several round bales were actually claimed on Meander. Threatening his home, the property owner doused the flames on Mambrino. The fire southwest of Tolar, which came within about two miles of Bluff Dale, was on the Big L Ranch. Fire command on Meander was terminated about 4:30, while the effort on the Big L Ranch continued into the evening. Busy fire marshal Brian Fine and two of his assistants were unavailable for comment.
