PECAN PLANTATION BITS

A Mississippi native who has been a Texas transplant for 28 years, Diane Long is a wife, mother and English teacher who has written Pecan Plantation Bits for 14 years cumulatively. She spends her time gathering neighborhood news and teaching students how to avoid passive voice.

The Pecan Plantation Volunteer Fire Department/Emergency Medical Service Auxiliary is preparing for two upcoming fundraisers: a pancake breakfast and the 2023 golf tournament along with raffle prizes.

Pancakes and all the trimmings will be served from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at Planeview Park Pavilion (4500 Wedgefield Road) on Saturday, May 27. Tickets, which will be sold in advance and at the door, are $10 each for adults and $5 for children (ages 5-10). Folks are invited to the airport park to eat as well as to enjoy a musical performance by husband and wife team Frank and Rebecca Faiola (JetBlacq) beginning at 9 a.m.

In addition, the auxiliary’s annual golf tournament is set for Saturday, June 24 on the Pecan course, and auxiliary members are selling tickets in advance of the tournament for prizes to be raffled.

For folks wishing to donate items or participate by assembling items or services in a themed basket for the raffle, please contact Julie Logan at 727-252-3702 or Susan Lee at 972-743-1292. No contribution is too small.

Finally, golfers may register for the golf tournament at the Pecan Pro Shop (817-573-2645). The 4-person scramble will offer golfers three hole-in-one opportunities, which all boast fabulous prizes.

Pecaners may check the auxiliary’s Facebook page or contact an auxiliary member for more information concerning the fundraisers and how to purchase raffle tickets.

GOLF PLAY

Pecan’s golf course continues to be busy today and tomorrow with the Guys and Dolls Tournament.

In addition, the Men’s Golf Association has individual low gross/low net on the calendar for Saturday, May 13, and the Ladies’ Golf Association is pleased to announce a most successful Sadie Hawkins event where many funds (that will go toward updating the on-course restrooms) were raised.

PARTY TIME

Pecaners will enjoy a Kentucky Derby Party today, Saturday, May 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the clubhouse when attendees may show off “hats, ties, and skill for picking ponies during the first jewel of the Triple Crown.”

The Brazos Room staff will provide heavy hors d'oeuvres, and the bar will be open. Ladies are encouraged to decorate and wear hats, and men should don their best bow ties. There will be prizes for the best fashion accessories chosen by “special guest judges.”

The Entertainment Committee will be selling door prize tickets that attendees may use to choose winning horses. Prizes for all winners will be “Pecan Bucks.”

Reservations are required as seating is limited. Call the clubhouse front desk to secure a spot: 817-573-2641.

All supplies are provided with the $75 registration fee, which is payable upon arrival at the event.
