Jeffrey Bryan McLaughlin, a 58-year-old man who has been in custody at the Hood County Jail in Granbury since January charged with the murder of his wife, was pronounced dead Saturday morning after he was transported to Lake Granbury Medical Center.

A news release emailed to the HCN from Sheriff’s Office Lt. Joshua Lane states: On Saturday, April 1, 2023 at about 7:01 AM, Hood County Jail Staff requested EMS for an unknown medical emergency for an inmate, identified as Jeffrey Bryan McLaughlin (58 YOA), who was transported by EMS to Lake Granbury Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.”

Lane also told the HCN that McLaughlin was found in the shower before he was transported to LGMC.

McLaughlin had been in custody, “charged with the murder of his wife, Venisa Maria McLaughlin, which occurred on January 1, 2023,” the news release stated.

McLaughlin had been released from the Hood County Jail after posting bond a little over a week following his wife’s death, but was re-arrested for bond violations, Sheriff Roger Deeds told the HCN at that time. A Jan. 10 HCN article noted that his bond stipulations included GPS monitoring, as well as being required to stay away from the victim’s two daughters.

The news release notes that no other information is available at this time, “as this is an ongoing investigation, which is being investigated by the Texas Rangers. More information will be provided as the information becomes available.”
