Firefighters battling large blaze off Highway 144 south of Granbury

Firefighting personnel, trucks and tankers continue to arrive at a large grass fire that appears to have started around 1 p.m. on the north side of Mambrino Highway near the intersection with Will Walters Road in the Hunterwood neighborhood.

It’s not yet known whether any homes have been involved. Mikey Knight reported his two homes were spared, but he lost a barn and storage building behind the house.

An air drop is expected to slow the spread of the fire in high winds.

Later, emergency scanner traffic indicated that other fires were also in progress, including one in the area near the 1900 block of Meander Road north of H-E-B near Barnwood Court.
