Latest GISD update: Two students to face charges in connection with Yik Yak threats

Posted

This update on today’s Granbury High School incident (Thursday, Dec. 2) — having to do with an earlier anonymous post on the Yik Yak app — was sent via text messaging to GHS parents shortly before 6 p.m., according to GISD spokesman Jeff Meador:

“Two Granbury High School students were apprehended by law enforcement today after making anonymous posts on the social media platform Yik Yak.  Although both students admitted that the posts included threats that were not real, we take this very seriously. Both students face charges with law enforcement, and the school will follow district policy and the Student Code of Conduct regarding campus discipline.

We sincerely appreciate the quick action of the Granbury Police Department, Hood County Sheriff’s Office, Hood County Crime Stoppers, along with our own Granbury ISD security team to identify the individuals who made these posts. Law enforcement contacted Yik Yak, which disclosed the registered phone numbers behind these accounts.

The safety and security of our students and staff is a high priority, and we take that responsibility very seriously as you entrust your children with us every day.”

No other information on the two students is available at this time.
