An 18-year-old Godley man who was ejected from a utility vehicle during a crash early Saturday morning (July 10) died from his injuries, according to DPS Sgt. Richard Hunter. The driver, a 21-year-old Granbury man, and another passenger, a 21-year-old Godley resident, were transported to a Fort Worth hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Payton C. Herman of Godley was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth where he died from his injuries, Hunter stated.

At 1:19 a.m. Saturday, DPS troopers were notified of the crash, on Bolton Road in northern Hood County, Hunter said.

“Preliminary investigation indicates a 2017 Polaris Utility Vehicle was traveling southwest on Bolton Road,” Hunter wrote in an email. “For an undetermined reason, the driver, Kayleb T. Erwin, 21, of Granbury, went off the road into the barrow ditch where the Polaris overturned and struck a fence.”

Erwin and both passengers — Caitlin Herman, 21, of Godley, and Payton Herman — were ejected from the Polaris during the crash.

Hunter added, “This crash remains under investigation and no additional information is available.”
