Pruitt arrested on two warrants in connection with veterans charity

Granbury resident Douglas Lee Pruitt was arrested Sunday afternoon at his residence by Hood County Sheriff’s Office deputies on two misdemeanor charges stemming “from several complaints” … “from citizens who were concerned with the practices of Pruitt raising money for veterans and not filing the proper paperwork with the Texas Secretary of State,” Lt. Johnny Rose stated in an email to the HCN.

Pruitt, 56, founded a nonprofit organization, which recently has been affiliated with a Memorial Day event in Hood County.

“The financial case is still under investigation and if you donated money to any of his charities for a specific reason or specific veteran and your wishes were not honored, please contact the Hood County Sheriff’s Office, and relay the information,” Rose stated.

Both of the warrants against Pruitt are Class B misdemeanors, and he was released from the Hood County Jail after posting bond that was set at $1,000 on each charge. One is for “no registration statement to solicit for veterans” and the other is for “no surety bond,” Rose noted.

“Additional charges could be pending in the future,” Rose said during a phone conversation with the HCN.
