Granbury JazzFest set for Saturday, Feb. 26

Posted

Most festivals occur during warmer months, but February is the month to hotfoot it to the first-ever Granbury JazzFest.

The historic district is sure to be swinging.

Featuring 14 regional and national jazz acts, the free daylong music festival — from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26 — will be held across three stages: Granbury Square Plaza, Langdon Center and Hewlett Park.

Acts will include Tatiana Mayfield and Brasuka, a six-member band that performs Brazilian music with reggae, classical, jazz improvisation, folk-style melodies, Uruguayan candombe and pop.

The Granbury High School Jazz Band and the Temple Highlighters from Temple High School will also perform.

There is no cost to enjoy the music, but attendees are asked to bring non-perishable food donations to support One More Food Pantry, a service ministry that supplies non-perishable food to neighborhood food pantries in the Granbury area.

The festival is the work of the Granbury JazzFest Committee, a group committed to creating entertainment events designed to grow cultural diversity.

The committee includes Andrew Stonerock of the Tarleton Jazz Program; Janice Horak, executive director of development at Tarleton State University; Reagan and Matt Deming, former owners of Painting with a Twist; and Jesan and Brigit Sorrells, founders of Granbury JazzFest.

The committee has the support of Visit Granbury, the city of Granbury’s Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Sorrells hope to grow the event into the premier jazz festival for North Central Texas.

Businesses and individuals that would like to help develop the event through support and donations that will help pay performers can contact the Granbury JazzFest Committee by emailing admin@granburyjazzfest.com or by calling 682-719-5962.
