Virtual Lake Fest 5K to benefit lifejacket station at City Beach Park

Posted

The city of Granbury is inviting the public to participate in the Granbury Lake Fest Virtual 5K.

Registration is now open and will close at 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2.

The first 80 participants will receive a free T-shirt.

Proceeds will go toward the purchase and maintenance of lifejackets for the permanent, unmanned lifejacket loaner stand at City Beach Park. Cost to participate is $30 per person.

The lifejacket loaner stand was created several years ago through a partnership between then-15-year-old Wesley Barefoot and the city.

Barefoot, then a member of Boy Scout Troop 360, approached city officials about creating the station as his Eagle Scout project.

Participants in the virtual 5K can run, walk or jog 3.1 miles and then submit their time to the city. The city will then send participants a medal and, if they are among the first 80 to register, a shirt.

To sign up, go to: https://runsignup.com/Race/TX/Granbury/GranburyStPatricksDay5K.

In addition to registering to participate in the virtual 5K, people who go to that site can also donate to the lifejacket project.
