Staffers at Visit Granbury are masters at creating and promoting tourist-drawing events and it could perhaps be said that an occasion they are planning for 2024 will eclipse all others.
Next year, on Monday, April 8, Granbury will be “in the path of totality” for a solar eclipse, according to Visit Granbury, the city’s Convention and Visitors Bureau.
In other words, Granbury will experience a total solar eclipse, which happens when the moon passes between the sun and the earth, completely blocking the face of the sun. When that happens, the sky darkens as if it were dawn or dusk.
Naturally, Visit Granbury is working it.
The staff plans to coordinate eclipse events, hotel deals and specials for the once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Although total solar eclipses happen somewhere on earth every 18 months on average, they occur at any one location only once every 360-410 years, according to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
With the eclipse happening on a Monday, that could mean a three-day weekend in Granbury for tourists.
According to Visit Granbury, the total solar eclipse will last for 2 minutes and 6.8 seconds. It will start at 1:39:26 p.m. and end at 1:41:33 p.m.
