Acton assistant principal picked for promotion
Karla Willmeth, assistant principal at Acton Elementary School, is the finalist to be the school’s next principal, according to an announcement by Granbury ISD Superintendent Jeremy Glenn. “Having been at AES for many years, Mrs. Willmeth has the leadership abilities and staff support to be a great principal,” said Glenn. “She not only understands the accomplishments of the campus but also has a progressive vision and fantastic ideas for the future of AES."
Willmeth’s appointment is subject to approval by school board trustees, who will consider the recommendation at the next regular meeting on Monday. If approved, Willmeth will succeed Anna Roe, who is departing for the Crowley school district after leading the school since 2012.
The AES assistant principal since 2012, Willmeth has been in GISD since 2006, working as an English/language arts and reading teacher at both Granbury Middle School and Acton Middle School. She also served as instructional specialist at AMS.
In 2016, Willmeth was named Assistant Principal of the Year for the Region XI education service area by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association.
The incoming principal has 21 years of educational experience and began her career teaching physical education and coaching gymnastics at Abilene High School, where she worked before coming to Granbury. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Abilene Christian University and a Master of Education from Lamar University.
