Authorities: Female drowns in Brazos River

Sunday, May 26, 2019

A female kayaker apparently drowned Sunday afternoon in the swift Brazos River near Pecan Plantation, authorities said. Emergency responders located her body and kayak in brush in the river not far from the Pecan bridge. Sheriff Roger Deeds said he believes the female was wearing a life jacket but the current was too strong. So strong, in fact, that it flipped a Granbury firefighters' rescue boat. No injuries were reported. The Brazos River Authority shut the gates at the dam to reduce the flow, which aided in the recovery of the female's body.
