Driver charged with manslaughter

A driver was arrested on manslaughter charges after a nurse was killed on a Granbury highway, police said.

Shaquettia Sonya Carter, 35, of Cresson, was arrested Tuesday night in Harker Heights south of Waco.

Haley Darnell, 44, of Glen Rose, was killed June 2 when a car collided with her vehicle on FM Road 4 south of Kroger, according to police.

Carter was speeding southbound on FM 4 in a 2005 Honda Accord and entered the turn lane to pass a vehicle, police reported. She lost control of her vehicle, traveled into the northbound lane and hit Darnell’s northbound 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, accordiing to police.

Darnell was pronounced dead at the scene. Carter had a leg injury.

Darnell left behind a husband and two sons. A Facebook page said Darnell “never met a stranger and was one of the kindest people you could have ever known.”
