Tuesday, September 15, 2020

The Granbury Optimist Club donated $7,500 to the Granbury ISD Education Foundation Tuesday, according to school officils.

The community organization, which has contributed to Granbury ISD Education Foundation for several years, will be a named sponsor for certification exam funds assisting career and technical education students at Granbury High School.

Several hundred GHS students are eligible for a variety of certifications each school year, according to CTE director Jimmy Dawson.  These include certifications for Adobe Suite, certified nurse assistant, EMT, Ground School aviation, Quick Books, pharmacy technician, ServSafe food handler, SOLIDWORKS mechanical design software, Unity C# programmer, and veterinary technician.

“We are thankful for the Optimist Club’s dedication to Granbury schoolchildren,” Granbury ISD Education Foundation Board President Stacy Mitchell said. “Their contribution will go a long way to helping fund innovative teaching grants for GISD classrooms.”

The Granbury ISD Education Foundation’s mission is creating opportunities to invest, encourage, and support educational excellence in GISD. The foundation is designed to be a community effort bringing donations from businesses, civic groups, and individuals to fund innovative teaching grants, student scholarships, and academic achievement for GISD students. GEF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization created for the benefit of the school district’s students and staff members and will provide funding not allocated by tax dollars.

The Optimist Club supports local schools and numerous youth organizations. The group also awards several scholarships to Hood County graduating seniors, who are also recognized by the group’s Young Texan and Young Tex-Anne program.

Special thanks to GISD Director of Communications Jeff Meador for this report.
