Pirates open district with 32-21 win
The Granbury Pirates held off the Crowley Eagles 32-21 in the district football opener on a cool and breezy Thursday night in Crowley.
The Pirates (2-2, 0-1) were led by senior workhorse Zach Watson's 223 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Granbury roared to a 26-0 lead in the third quarter before Crowley (0-4) erupted for two quick touchdowns to trail 26-14 early in the final quarter. Watson's 20-yard TD jaunt widened the Pirate lead to 32-14, but Crowley answered to pull within 32-21 with 3:41 left. Granbury ran out the clock to defeat its longtime nemesis.
