Swearingen apologizes, resigns
Granbury School Board member Bob Swearingen resigned after apologizing for an offensive photo and comments on his Faceback page. The photo showed a male instructor inappropriately touching two females in an exercise class.
The majority of the 19 people who spoke at a special school board meeting Tuesday were critical of Swearingen who later addressed the board and crowd: "I want to publicly apologize for posting inappropriate material on my personal Facebook page. Please know that those comments in no way reflect who I am as a trustee, husband and father of six daughters ... I am a fighter and had planned to continue serving in spite of the critics who refused to accept my apology ... At this time I believe it is in the best interests of our community for me to resign my position on the school board and allow Granbury ISD to refocus on our district's educational goals."
Voters will elect Swearingen's successor in November.
