Acton hosts Wreaths Across America

Posted

Millions of people gathered Saturday to remember the fallen, honor those who serve and teach the value of freedom at the National Wreaths Across America Day.

In Hood County, a team of volunteers placed wreaths at the graves of veterans buried in Acton Cemetery.

The Wreaths Across America ceremony and wreath laying at Acton Cemetery is organized by the Elizabeth Crockett Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.

Retired Texas Air National Guard Colonel Jackie Vaughn was master of ceremonies at the brief remembrance ceremony.

Hood County Judge Ron Massingill also addressed the assembly. Chaplain was Errol Flannery, a direct descendant of David “Davy” and Elizabeth Crockett.

Ceremonial wreaths were placed by cadets of the Gran-bury High School Junior ROTC to honor those from each branch of service, and those missing in action or held as prisoners of war.

The annual ceremony and wreath laying is a free event and open to all who desire to attend, participate or volunteer.
