Annual Field of Flags hometown event in place for viewing

The annual event, ”Honoring Hometown Heroes — A Field of Flags” is once again featured among the Memorial Day weekend schedule of events in Hood County.

This year marks the 11^th anniversary of the local event, which is being held  daily through May 29 at Memorial Field, located at 3602 E. U.S Highway 377 In Granbury, according to visitgranbury.org. The opening ceremony, which featured “American Sniper” widow Tara Kyle, was held Friday, May 26.

The event includes patriotic music and performances, as well as military displays. There are 80-plus hero banners and more than 300 flags representing hometown heroes.

A special memorial closing ceremony will be held starting at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 29. An MOAA Pecan Plantation pilot flyover laying of the wreath by Gold Star families is scheduled.

Granbury High School’s choir group is slated to sing the National Anthem, and the school’s MCJROTC Honor Guard will be on hand. There will be local singers, bagpipes, and bugles will play Taps. Granbury.org also noted that former Army Golden Knight Dana Bowman will parachute in with a giant American flag. Mike Kurth, a “Black Hawk Down” Army Ranger will be a guest speaker Monday.
