Bird season is here: Dove tacos coming soon

Wednesday, September 2, 2020

September 1 was opening day. It’s a date a lot of people have circled on their calendar because it signifies the beginning of dove season.

One of the most popular of all the shooting sports, dove hunting is something folks look forward to because but somehow the birds seem to know exactly when and how to duck and dive just as a hunter pulls a trigger! You better be a good shot if you plan on getting a mess of dove for a meal!

Speaking of meals, my wife Teresa is going to have frequently there are large numbers of birds and lots of action! If you have never hunted dove, you may not know this, a great recipe for dove tacos in an upcoming edition of the paper! Promise you will love it! Good luck and good hunting!

It is will deep sorrow I note the passing of Val Hale. My friend had been suffering through a variety of ailments for many years, but I never once ever heard him complain or show despair.

Val proudly gave 49 years of service to the federal government and I am proud to say Rep. Mike Conway is having a flag raised at the USA Congress in Val’s honor, and Sen. Brian Birdwell is having the same action taken at the state capital in Austin. The two flags will be presented to Val’s wife Julie.

Val was a highly intelligent man who loved his music and his family. He was a regular customer at Granbury Live and the Opera House and will be missed by many. God rest his soul and many thanks for his service to our country!

Just when we thought we had seen everything in 2020, a hurricane strikes our fellow Texans who live along the coast. Without question I am getting older, and the years pass by quickly, but I am 100% certain that 2020 cannot get behind us soon enough!

With that said, I do know something about the mindset of my fellow Texans. We may have been rocked back a little bit with the Covid-19. It has affected our lifestyle and businesses. The hurricane may cause damage and hardships and there may be more to come, but there is nothing that Mother Nature can throw at Texans that is going to keep us down!

We will all get through this together. We need to stop and remember all the wonderful things the good Lord and Texas has blessed us with and know our future is bright. Texas proud and Texas strong!

Thought for the day: When a man only knows one side of the story, he is only half smart!

Until next time! | 817-573-7066, ezxt.260
