Richard Anthony Metten, 32, who was arrested Friday, Dec. 30 by deputies with the Hood County Sheriff’s Office along with Granbury Police Department officers and members of the U.S. Marshal’s Service, now has bonds set totaling $1.95 million, according to a news release from HCSO Lt. Joshua Lane.

With the six felony warrants for Metten’s arrest, officers made entry into a residence on Hunterwood Drive to serve a search warrant, the news release said, but Metten fled the house through a back door before he was apprehended. Five of the six counts against Metten are listed as first-degree felony offenses, and the sixth is a second-degree felony charge.

Sheriff Roger Deeds issued this statement on Metten’s arrest:

“I am very happy and so are a bunch of terrified citizens of Hood County to get Mr. Metten in custody,” Deeds stated. “A lot of Law Enforcement have put in a lot of time working on all of the different charges being put on him. He has brought this on to himself thinking he is above the law."

Lane’s release states that a 20-year-old female in the residence, Deanna Nicole Sherrouse, was also taken into custody. Sherrouse was charged with a third-degree felony count of hindering arrest in connection with the Metten case.

As of press time, Lane noted, Metten remained in the Hood County Jail. Sherrouse is also still in custody, with bond set at $15,000.

The news release sent to the Hood County News from the Hood County Sheriff’s Office states:

"On Friday, 12-30-2022 at about 2:29 p.m., members of the Hood County Sheriff’s Office, Granbury Police Department and U.S. Marshal’s Service arrived at a residence in the 5900 block of Hunterwood Drive Granbury, Hood County to serve a search warrant for Richard Anthony Metten (32) of Granbury who was reported to be armed and had 6 felony warrants for his arrest, which were as follows:

- Capias Aggravated Robbery, 1st degree felony, bond $100,000

- Capias Aggravated Sexual Assault, 1st degree felony, bond $200,000

- Delivery of a Controlled Substance to Minor, 2nd degree felony (bond later set at $50,000)

- Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, 1st degree felony (bond later set at $750,000)

- Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, 1st Degree Felony (bond later set at $750,000)

- Continuous Trafficking of a Child, 1st Degree Felony (bond later set at $100,000)

"Once on scene, Metten was determined to be inside the residence with a female, identified as Deanna Nicole Sherrouse (20) of Granbury," the HCSO news release states. "As entry was being made into the residence, Metten ran out the back door in an effort to avoid being arrested, however even after jumping several fences he was taken into custody and booked into the Hood County Jail on the above warrants.

"During the investigation, it was determined that Sherrouse had been hindering the apprehension of Metten at which time she was placed under arrest for Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution, which is a 3rd degree felony and no bond has been set yet."

Lane said in a follow-up email to the HCN that some of Metten’s charges “stem from an investigation that the Crimes Against Children investigators at the Hood County District Attorney’s Office investigated, so I do not have any specific information to provide.”

Lane noted that Sherrouse “was arrested for hindering apprehension of prosecution after it was learned that she was giving him a place to hide from law enforcement, as law enforcement had been looking for him for several days.”
