Chamber to host candidates forums

Posted

The Granbury Chamber of Commerce will host three candidates forums ahead of the Nov. 8 General Election.

One forum will be for candidates for the Granbury School Board of Trustees, one will be for the county clerk and Precinct 4 county commissioner races, and one will be for Granbury City Council.

The forums will take place on upcoming Tuesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. at the Lake Granbury Conference Center.

There will be seating for an audience of 100.

According to the chamber, the events will not be livestreamed, nor will video be posted online later.

The event featuring school board candidates will be on Oct. 11, the one for the county races will take place on Oct. 18, and the City Council forum will be on Oct. 25.

City and school races are considered nonpartisan. The county races feature Republican incumbents who have Democratic challengers.

There are three races for the Granbury School Board.

Candidates, in ballot order, are Place 5 — Terry Louvin, Billy Wimberly, and John Mark Graves; Place 6 — incumbent Barbara Townsend and Jeff Hastings; and Place 7 — Karen Lowery and incumbent Paula McDonald.

Granbury Mayor Pro Tem Trish Reiner will serve as moderator.

The county forum will include incumbent county clerk Katie Lang and challenger Harold Granek and Precinct 4 county commissioner Dave Eagle and his competitor, Grant Wood.

Chamber president and CEO Brian Bondy told the Hood County News on Wednesday that he had not yet finalized a moderator for that event.

The chamber had not planned on hosting a forum for the county races because candidates had participated in one during the spring primaries. However, the chamber reversed course due to public interest, Bondy indicated.

Two seats for the Granbury City Council will be on the ballot.

For Place 1, the mayor’s seat, incumbent Jim Jarratt is being challenged by former councilmember and former mayor pro tem Tony Mobly.

For Place 2, incumbent Eddie Rodriquez faces a challenge from Pat Abell.

The moderator for that forum will be Eric Morrow, dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Tarleton State University.

The last day to register to vote for the Nov. 8 election is Oct. 11.

Early voting begins Monday, Oct. 24.
