Posted

Leaders of George’s Creek Baptist Church in Somervell County have announced that after 107 years in the current building, the church will be closing. The final worship service will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 15, followed by a meal, according to a news release provided by a church deacon, Rex Hudgins.

Pat Bush, who said he has been the church’s pastor for a little over two years, will lead the final worship service and deliver the sermon.

According to the news release, “Families with past ties to the church and other friends of the church are cordially invited to attend this last worship service, bring your favorite dish, and join us for a potluck meal and a good time of fellowship after the service.

“The church land and building has been donated to the George’s Creek Cemetery Association. Other assets are being given to charities and ministries that the church supports along with Gideon’s International and the George’s Creek Cemetery Association. Remaining memorabilia items in the building are being offered to members and friends of the church who may want them for sentimental reasons.”

The church is northeast of Nemo on County Road 308 in Somervell County, about 1.3 miles north of U.S. 67. Turn off from U.S. 67 to County Road 308 east of Glen Rose and west of Cleburne.
