PECAN PLANTATION BITS

A Mississippi native who has been a Texas transplant for 27 years, Diane Long is a wife, mother and English teacher who has written Pecan Plantation Bits for 14 years cumulatively. She spends her time gathering neighborhood news and teaching students how to avoid passive voice.

At its most recent meeting, the Pecan Plantation Volunteer Fire Department/Emergency Medical Service Auxiliary was pleased to honor Juliana Eckley with a scholarship to further her education and training in the emergency response field. She currently works as an EMT with Pecan’s EMS.

Thank you to Juliana, and all of our community’s emergency service volunteers, who assist residents on a daily basis.

FALL BAZAAR

The Auxiliary is also busy preparing for its fall bazaar that will happen on Saturday, Oct. 2 at the PAC grounds from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and this year’s event will be bigger and better than any in the past.

An outdoor farmers market is a new addition to the festivities, and these vendors will join artisans and chefs offering jewelry, apparel and accessories, home decor, holiday decorations, yard art, quilts, woodworks, scents, soaps, delicious candies, and other foods for sale. Pecan’s gates will be open to the public on bazaar sale day.

The Fidget Chicks will be selling pulled pork sandwiches and chicken salad sandwiches for lunch, and a group of Pecan’s own talented musicians will provide entertainment on the grounds from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Representatives of Cowtown Gold and Silver will be present throughout the day to purchase gold, silver and platinum jewelry, flatware, hollowware, coins, and other precious metals. Pecan’s VFD/EMS will receive 10 percent of the total amount of precious metal purchased at this event.

For more information about the bazaar, contact Joy Rice at 254-289-2224 or jdauxiliary@gmail.com.

Every penny raised on bazaar sale day will benefit Pecan’s emergency personnel.

VEHICLE SHOWING

Pecan’s annual Classic Car Show is taking place at the PAC today, Saturday, Sept. 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Folks of all ages are welcome to bring chairs and refreshments. No food will be sold at the event.

BOARD NOMINATION

Nominations are currently open for the selection of one person to serve on Pecan’s Volunteer Fire Department/Emergency Medical Service board of directors. At the annual meeting of our emergency personnel on Saturday, Nov. 13, a new director will be chosen.

Folks who would like to serve (or nominate someone to serve) may deliver a resume to the emergency service compound located on Monticello Drive, or send via email to ppems@ppvfd/ems.com.

The deadline for candidate submissions is Monday, Sept. 27.

WELCOME HOME

Scheduling conflicts prevented a recently planned new member orientation gathering, but a new date is on the calendar.

The most recent residents of our community are welcome to meet and ask questions of Membership Committee members on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. in the clubhouse ballroom.

ART NEWS

Pecaners have one more week to view and admire the paintings of Barbara Brown, whose work is featured in the hallway from the lobby to the ballroom of Pecan’s clubhouse.

Barbara is a member of the Pecan Plantation Art Guild (PPAG) who says “painting for pleasure” reflects her art passion. After retiring and moving to Texas, Barbara pursued art instruction and said she has currently discovered the joy of non-traditional art.

The PPAG meets the second Tuesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. at the PAC. Guests and potential members are welcome.

For complete information on the PPAG and the art scene in Pecan, visit www.pecanplantationartguild.com.
