Fundraiser will help Green Thumb maintain common areas in Pecan

Posted

PECAN PLANTATION BITS

A Mississippi native who has been a Texas transplant for 27 years, Diane Long is a wife, mother, and English teacher who has written Pecan Plantation Bits for 14 years cumulatively. She spends her time both gathering neighborhood news and teaching students how to avoid passive voice.

The Green Thumb Garden Club (GTGC) in Pecan Plantation consists of a group of hardworking folks who keep the common areas of our community, namely the front and back circles, looking lovely.

The fruit of the GTGC’s labor, however, is not free, and to help offset expenses of their endeavors, a fundraiser is happening today, Saturday, Sept. 18, at 6304 Keller Court from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Decorative (and one-of-a-kind) art poles, birdhouses, and other various yard art décor will be available for purchase, and all proceeds will enable the GTGC to continue its excellent work in our neighborhood.

WELCOME HOME

A new member orientation for the newest residents of our community is on the calendar for Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 10 a.m.

The gathering will be held in the clubhouse ballroom, and folks from Pecan’s Membership Committee will be on hand to meet new residents and answer questions about our neighborhood.

BREAKFAST CLUB

The next meeting of Pecan’s Breakfast Club comes Wednesday, Sept. 22 beginning at 8 a.m. Folks desiring to attend can make a reservation by calling the clubhouse front desk (817-573-2641), as well as stay up to date on programs by visiting the group’s Facebook page or being added to the email list: breakfastclub@ppoaweb.com.

FALL FARMERS’ MARKET

The Pecan Plantation Volunteer Fire Department/Emergency Service Auxiliary’s fall bazaar is on the calendar for Saturday, Oct. 2 on the PAC grounds from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and this year’s event is adding an outdoor farmers market to the festivities.

Pantherville Urban Farm, B. Blumen Flower Farm, and Parkinson Farms are among the outdoor market vendors who will participate in the day, and auxiliary members are excited to add fresh produce and homegrown farm products, fresh cut flower and market bouquets, as well as fresh, free-range eggs and chickens to fare offered for sale.

The gates will be open to the public to attend the bazaar, which will feature a gym packed with the unique and varied creations of amazing artisans and crafters: jewelry, apparel and accessories, home decor, holiday decorations, yard art, quilts, woodworks, scents, soaps, delicious candies, and other foods.

The Fidget Chicks will be selling pulled pork sandwiches and chicken salad sandwiches for lunch, and a group of Pecan’s own talented musicians will provide entertainment on the grounds from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Representatives of Cowtown Gold and Silver will be present throughout the fair to purchase gold, silver and platinum jewelry, flatware, hollowware, coins, and other precious metals. Pecan’s VFD/EMS will receive ten percent of the total amount of precious metal purchased at this event.

For more information about the bazaar, contact Joy Rice at 254-289-2224 or jdauxiliary@gmail.com.

Every penny raised on bazaar sale day will benefit Pecan’s emergency personnel.

WALK WAY

Thank you to Daniel Van Patten and his crew for overseeing the construction of two new concrete pathways on the PAC grounds: one connects the walking trail to the pickleball courts, and the other falls between the overflow parking lot and the main sidewalk. Pecaners will enjoy these walkways for years to come.

BOARD NOMINATION

Nominations are currently open for the selection of one person to serve on Pecan’s Volunteer Fire Department/Emergency Medical Service board of directors. At the annual meeting of our emergency personnel on Saturday, Nov. 13, a new director will be chosen.

Folks who would like to serve (or nominate someone to serve) may deliver a resume to the emergency service compound located on Monticello Drive or send via email to ppems@ppvfd/ems.com

The deadline for candidate submissions is Monday, Sept. 27.

EMERGENCY NUMBER

Pecan’s emergency services reminds residents to dial 911 for emergencies rather than the clubhouse reception desk.  For non-emergency situations, the security office may be reached at 817-408-3511.

VEHICLE SHOWING

Pecan’s annual Classic Car Show will take place at the PAC on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Show cars will be accepted and parked beginning at 8:30 a.m. until viewing begins at 10. The day is a non-judged event with no entry fee.

Folks of all ages are welcome to bring chairs and refreshment as no food will be sold at the event.

Contact Ron Bernier at rondini7995@sbcglobal.net if interested in bringing a show car.

SYMPATHY

Our deepest sympathy goes to the family of Jeanette Kirby Wolfe, who passed away Aug. 29; to the family of Jim Morris, who passed away Aug. 30; and to the family of Marjorie Fessler, who passed away Sept. 1.
