Tolar students compete in UIL events in Joshua

 Tolar High School’s Academic UIL and CX debate teams competed on Saturday, Jan. 15, at the Joshua Invitational Meet. The Tolar entrants were competing in their first invitational meet, performing well against opponents from larger schools in some cases.

In Science, Aiden Wolf of Tolar was the top finisher overall and also won first place in chemistry. He also tied for the top score in Biology.

For Tolar’s Mathematics team, Aiden Wolf placed first and Brendan Sibley was fifth in the 11th-12th Grade Division, while Merrick Warren took fifth place in the 9th-10th Grade Division. 

In Spelling, Tolar’s Aimee Palmer won first place overall and Kenna Clark earned fifth place. Bailey Gammons was also part of the second-place Spelling Team.

Tolar’s CX Debate teams — Davis Nix and Julien Rodriguez, and the team of Isaac Blessing and Nic Florea — finished out their required debates and qualified for the district debate competition to be held next month.

Tolar’s Calculator team, which included Andrew Wolf, Lainey Henderson and Coco Donegan, and Number Sense team with Andrew Wolf, Davis Nix and Merrick Warren competed for the first time. 

Julz Maxwell competed in all journalism events and received excellent feedback on her writings.
