Crash claims life of Granbury woman, 43

The Granbury Police Department has released the name of a Granbury woman who was pronounced dead at the scene of a March 9 multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Northeast Loop 567 and Stockton Bend Road in Granbury. The name the 43-year-old woman, Shawn Lorraine Mitchell, had been withheld pending an investigation into the three-vehicle crash, according to a previous GPD news release.

The March 23 news release from GPD Lt. Russell Grizzard to the Hood County News, giving Mitchell’s name and age, also stated, “I do not know the status of the other driver who was transported, and the incident is under investigation.”

In an earlier email, GPD Chief Mitch Galvan noted that the crash happened at approximately 5:42 p.m., and noted, “Preliminary investigation suggests that a 2020 Hyundai Elantra driven by a female Granbury resident was northbound on Northeast Loop 567 preparing to make a left turn onto Stockton Bend Road. The Hyundai was struck by a 2005 Acura passenger car from behind driven by a Fort Worth resident causing the Hyundai to be pushed into an oncoming southbound 2019 Kia Soul driven by a Granbury resident. The female driver of the Hyundai Elantra was reported deceased at the scene and the female driver of the Kia Soul was transported to a Fort Worth hospital by Texas Emergency Medical Services with serious injuries.”
