Cresson firefighter dies battling California wildfire

A Cresson volunteer firefighter lost her life fighting a wildfire Monday near Sacramento, California.

Cresson resident Diana Jones was working on her son’s contracting team battling the August Complex fires just northwest of Sacramento, according to Cresson Fire Chief Ron Becker.

“She was a classy lady,” Becker said. “It’s a tragedy. She enjoyed doing this type of work.”

Jones was widowed and lived in Cresson, Becker

The chief didn’t have details, but said he received a call from her son’s wife about the tragedy. said. She had been with the Cresson fire department about five years.

He pointed out that Jones was among the fire responders who helped save a heart attack victim in January.

“The Cresson fire department is worse off for her loss,” he said.
