Decorate those golf carts!

Posted

Pecaners will celebrate America’s Independence Day next Friday with festivities lasting from 5:30 to 10 p.m.

A parade and street dance are on the agenda. Neighbors are encouraged to wear red, white and blue in honor of our country’s celebration of freedom.

Parade participants may include golf carts, floats, bicycles, cars, motorcycles and horses that reside in Pecan, and all who will be in the procession should arrive at the Nutcracker clubhouse at 5:30 p.m.

The parade will commence at 6:30 and arrive at the clubhouse at 7. No registration for the parade is necessary, and all drivers must hold a valid driver’s license.

“The Brazos River Strangers” will provide live music for the evening. Games and family activities will be happening. A disc jockey at the pool will be part of the festivities.

Food service will be provided at the clubhouse, and all purchases will be made with cash or credit card. No charges to member accounts, and no tickets for this event. Social distancing is requested, but masks are not required for the evening.

SUMMER CAMP

The second session of “swing and swim” camp runs Tuesday through Friday of next week. Campers ages 6 and up are welcome, and they should bring a tennis racquet, swimsuit and pool gear. Call the tennis shop to register: 817-579-9412.

SWIM CLASS

Session two of swim lessons will begin July 6 and continue through July 17 and include eight sessions 30 minutes in length. Three classes (mom and tot, beginners and older swimmers) run from 10 to 11:30 a.m. A YMCA certified swim instructor will lead the class, and signup is happening now at the PAC: 817-573-7952.

ART CAMP

An acrylic painting camp for Pecaners ages 7 and over will happen July 6, 7, 9 and 10 at the PAC with Pecan artist Deanna Thibault leading the instruction. Art supplies are included in the camp fee, and class space is limited to 10 students. Sign up here too by calling the PAC.

GREEN THUMB

Linda Kunzman, on behalf of the Green Thumb Garden Club (GTGC), thanks Pecaners who purchased turbines decorated for spring. With the annual plant sale canceled, this fundraiser was an important event for the GTGC, the funds from which enabled the group to purchase summer plants for both circles.

Linda also says the spring cleanup is complete, and annual color plants have taken root.

The goal of the GTGC is to beautify the common areas of our community, and they do an outstanding job of making both the front and back circles a lovely sight upon entrance to Pecan.

GOLF PLAY

The Ladies’ Golf Association has ABCD low gross and low net play planned for Tuesday, and the Men’s Golf Association has 4 man 2 best balls with pro shop pairings on the schedule for Thursday.

AUXILIARY HAPPENINGS

Lana Robinson, an officer in the Pecan Plantation Volunteer Fire Department/ Emergency Medical Service Auxiliary and information officer for the group, reminds residents of the auxiliary’s continued fundraising efforts.

The auxiliary had to cancel most fundraising events for the spring. However, one way Pecan residents may help support Pecan’s emergency service volunteers is by participating in the auxiliary’s Yankee Candle online sales campaign.

The fundraiser is currently underway and will continue through July 7, according to Drinda Mead, campaign chair. The company offers numerous household and gardening items as well as gifts for special occasions.

Pecaners and friends may support this auxiliary endeavor by visiting www.YankeeCandleFundraising.com and using group number 999997992. Such orders will ensure the auxiliary receives credit for the purchase.

Every penny earned in the fundraiser will support Pecan’s emergency medical groups, which keep our community safe on a daily basis.
