How do you pray? This seems like a silly question, right? But, really, think about it. Do you pray when things are going right in your life? Is your prayer life just as active when you have money in the bank and gas in the car as when you’re strapped for cash and running on fumes? What would it look like if we prayed in ALL things?

Initially, most of us begin our journey to “newness” with prayer. We ask for discipline in reaching our “New Year’s Resolutions.” We ask Him to change our hearts and give us a passion for a newer, healthier way of life. However, we don’t always carry this initial prayer into a continuous conversation with God.

Communication in any relationship is key and our relationship with the creator of the universe is no different. Our prayer life MATTERS. We have to CONTINUALLY make our way back to the feet of Jesus, calling on His strength to carry out our commitments and resolutions.

Even Rev. Billy Graham said, “The Christian life is not a constant high. I have my moments of deep discouragement. I have to go to God in prayer with tears in my eyes, and say, ‘O God, forgive me,’ or ‘Help me.’” It doesn’t matter who you are, we ALL need an active prayer life.

I challenge you to pray without ceasing this week. Turn your initial request into an open dialogue with your creator. I think you’ll find that, in doing this, those New Year’s resolutions will feel a little less like a mountain to climb and a little more like just something else to talk to God about. My prayers are with you this week.
