Dog park gets a leg up

Posted

Pooch Plantation, Pecan’s off leash dog park, has had recent improvements for pets and owners utilizing it. Pooch Plantation is still in operation during shelter in place providing partakers abide by social distancing guidelines.

Mud and dust have always been an issue at Pooch Plantation with a lack of ground cover at the main entrance gates and along the center fence line.

To alleviate this issue, Friends of Pooch Plantation (FOPP) and Pecan’s grounds maintenance crew have installed bend board containment areas at both the large and small dog entrances. These areas have been filled with mulch to keep them free of mud during rainy periods and dust free in the summer.

In addition, the long-awaited lighting project in Pooch Plantation is now complete with the addition of four light structures in the central area of both the large and small dog areas of the park. These structures were formerly located in the Pecan Activities Center parking lot but were removed a few years ago and reinstalled at the request of FOPP.

The lights will be calibrated on timing devices and set to illuminate the central areas on each side of the entry gate in the early morning and at dark depending on the season of the year.

We have many Pooch Plantation users who exercise their pets early in the morning before leaving for work or in the evening upon their return. Lighting will offer a safe environment for this purpose.

Dennis Iacomini, on behalf of FOPP, sends thanks to the group’s members as their donations help sustain and continue the efforts to make all these improvements available to Pecan residents and their pets.

GOLF NEWS

Pecan golf professional Duff Cunningham would like to thank Pecaners for helping navigate the “unchartered waters” happening now.

He and the golfing staff of our community appreciate members’ efforts in maintaining social distancing, staying away from large groups and riding one to a cart (for folks who do not live under the same roof).

Pecan’s golf course could not continue to operate without the cooperative team effort of the golfers. Moreover, Pecan’s golf course has become “members only” play until further notice.

ARTISTS NOTED

The Pecan Plantation Art Guild (PPAG) happily presented its spring show at the Dora Lee Langdon Center off the Granbury square last month. At the show, several Pecan artists were lauded for their work.

Congratulations to Bonnie Chilcutt whose landscape titled “After the Rain” achieved the top prize of Best of Show.

Also honored for their work were Margaret Gulinson, Van Johnson and Cheryl Moore, whose large paintings received first-place awards.

Barbara Doberenz, Andrea Lee and Deanna Thibault won second place for large works, and Jean Carmichael, Beth Eschbach and Gwen Hutson received third-place awards for large paintings.

Barbara Sutton took first place for her small painting, and Dick Stultz was bestowed first place for his 3-D art, while KayCee Shane earned honorable mention.

The guild sends its thanks to the competition’s judge, Darla Bostick, both a nationally and internationally recognized artist, for her excellent work.

More congratulations go to PPAG’s Jimmie Borum and Andrea Lee, who are co-artists of the month for the guild. Also noted for outstanding work in the guild are Barbara Brown, Lowell Conder and Lana Robinson.

THANK YOU

How kind of Pecan pilots to provide a Good Friday air show for our community. Know that your neighbors are grateful.

More appreciation goes to Holly Yauck and Peggy Hunnicutt for their mask making initiative in our community. Thank you, ladies, for this wonderful service to Pecaners!

SYMPATHY

Our deepest sympathy goes to the family of Buddy Trice, who passed away April 7.
