Early vote totals reveal leaders in Granbury city, school races

Posted

Early voting totals show the men leading the women in two races for the Granbury City Council, and Place 4 Granbury ISD trustee Nancy Alana leading over two challengers.

In the Place 3 race for the Granbury School Board, early vote totals gave Melanie Graft a healthy lead in a three-person race that featured no incumbent.

The liquor election in Lipan was split 50-50, with two people voting for the legal sale and beer and wine, and two people voting against it.

All eight constitutional amendments appeared headed for easy passage.

For Granbury City Council, Place 3 incumbent Bruce Wadley went into Election Day with 623 votes to Joanie Keays’ 482, which made for a 56.38%/43.62% vote split.

In the Place 5 contest, a rematch between Steven Vale and Cathy Reidy showed Vale ahead in early voting, with the same number of votes as Wadley: 623.

Reidy won 493 votes during early voting, trailing Vale with 44.18% of the vote to his 55.82%.

The pair were in a three-person race in a special election held June 29. Vale won the most votes in that race, but did not win the 50% of the vote plus one needed to win the seat.

Reidy won the July runoff with 48 votes. She was subsequently sworn in to serve the remaining few months of Tony Mobly’s term.

Mobly resigned the seat to run for mayor in the special election. Jim Jarratt won that race.

For Place 3 on the Granbury School Board, Graft won 1,195 votes in early voting, or 45.25% of the ballots cast. Bret Deason received 736 votes (27.87%) and Susan Wood received 710 votes (26.88%).

In the Place 4 race, early voters gave Alana 1,270 votes, which amounted to 48.98%. Courtney Gore came in second in early vote totals, scoring 1,148 votes, or 44.27%. Betsy Ross received 175 votes, or 6.75%.

In the Place 4 race for the Tolar School Board, Jodi Barnes edged out incumbent Rhonda Knight in early voting, but only by five votes. The totals were 30 votes for Barnes, or 54.55%, and 25, or 45.45%, for Knight.

Out of Hood County’s 45,843 registered voters, 2,879, or 6.28%, cast ballots during early voting.

The HCN will post unofficial final numbers once all Vote Centers have reported.
