Enjoy veggies?

Posted

Ever yearn for the taste of homegrown vegetables but feel overwhelmed at the prospect of growing them yourself?

If so you might want to attend a two-hour “vegetable boot camp” and leave feeling ready to dig and plant!

Vegetable boot camp, offered by Lake Granbury Master Gardeners, will take place Saturday, Feb. 16, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Hood County Annex 1 Meeting Room, 1410 W. Pearl St., Granbury.

The camp is free but attendees must pre-register by calling the Texas AgriLife Extension office at 817-579-3280. Registration is necessary in order to provide plants for all participants.

Instruction at boot camp will include tips on growing early season vegetables such as cabbage, onions, beets, peas and potatoes.

Summer producing crops will also be covered by instructor Tom Scott, Lake Granbury Master Gardener, Master Naturalist and Citizen Forester. Scott has a background in retail garden center management as well as an associate’s degree in landscape design.

Attendees will also receive instruction on integrated pest management, fruit production and garden site planning. A hands-on pruning exercise will take place in the Lake Granbury Master Gardener Demonstration and Research Garden toward the end of the program.

For required reservations and additional information, contact the AgriLife Extension in Hood County by phone: 817-579-3280, email: hood-tx@tamu.edu or online at hood.agrilifeorg..
