Feb. 13, 2020 Morning Update: Lane closures expected, Naylor named Teacher of the Year
Here's all you need to know for the morning of Thursday, Feb. 13.
LANE CLOSURES EXPECTED
TxDOT contractors will be working Thursday at the intersection of West U.S. Hwy. 377 and 567 Loop N on the west side of town. The one-day project will begin around 8 a.m. and end about 2 p.m. Motorists should expect a lane closure at the work site.
LADY PIRATES PUT 8 PAST EVERMAN
A hat trick from Alyssa Gomez highlighted an 8-1 win for the Granbury Lady Pirates at home over Everman Tuesday. With the win, Granbury moved to 4-2 in District 5-5A. The Lady Pirates will play at Burleson at 6 p.m. Friday.
DEADLINE APPROACHING FOR BALLOT-BY-MAIL REQUESTS
The deadline for the Elections Administration office to receive ballot-by-mail applications for the March 3 primary election is Friday, Feb. 21. They must be received by that date, not postmarked by that date. Those with questions can call the Elections Administration office at 817-408-2525.
RHONDA NAYLOR NAMED VFW TEACHER OF THE YEAR
Veterans have a soft spot in the heart of Granbury teacher Rhonda Naylor. The social studies teacher at STARS Accelerated High School regularly invites veterans to speak to STARS classes and keeps students involved in a number of VFW post activities. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7835 presented Naylor with the National Citizenship Education Teacher Post Recognition Award (Teacher of the Year). Naylor spearheaded a project for STARS students to record oral history interviews of local armed services veterans. The interviews are part of the Veterans History Project, part of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
GTA ANNOUNCES 2020 CHILDREN'S SERIES
The Granbury Theatre Academy has announced its 2020 Children's Series productions, which will be staged at the historic Granbury Opera House. The Children's Series will include three productions this year: "101 Dalmations KIDS (May 1-2; tickets $12); "Seussical JR (July 17-26; tickets $20); and "Frozen JR" (Nov. 12-15; tickets $15). Sponsors for the series are the Granbury Optimist Club, Berry & Berry Dental, First National Bank of Granbury, The Hyde Law Firm and Henson Lumber.
