First responders respond

The Hood County Sheriff’s Office raised over $1,200 for pediatric cancer research.

Other first responder agencies in Texas, Colorado, Hawaii, Louisiana, Massachusetts and Mississippi teamed up with The Cure Starts Now Central Texas to raise money for childhood cancer, reports Vicky Bridier, chapter director, Central Texas.

“Within the last two years, we’ve lost three beautiful LEO (law enforcement officer) children in Texas under the age of 10 to the deadliest pediatric brain cancer, which has a zero percent chance of survival,” Bridier stated. “This devastation in our law enforcement family brought us together to create the first Beard It Up and Color For The Cure Campaigns.”

Each participant donated a minimum of $30 to grow a goatee and $50 for a beard. The campaign begin in November and was extended into January.

“We will continue to support this campaign, because it’s for an important cause,” said Hood County Chief Deputy Steve Smith.

The first Beard It Up campaign combined with Color For the Cure raised over $161,000 toward pediatric cancer research.

The Cure Starts Now Central Texas Chapter was established by Vicky and Troy Bridier in 2016 in the memory of their daughter, Jade, who passed away at the age of 4 after a five-day battle with an aggressive brain tumor.
