Free car giveaway for excellent attendance at GHS

Wednesday, November 6, 2019

For the third year in a row, one Granbury High School will win a car for perfect attendance.

GHS and Granbury Nissan owner Sharbel Lattouf, in partnership with Strive to Drive TX, will provide a free 2018 Nissan Sentra to one student that has had an excellent attendance record throughout the year. Students will earn one ticket for each six weeks grading period with perfect attendance, five extra tickets for a perfect semester and 10 extra tickets for a perfect year.

In May, ten finalists will be drawn from each ticket, and each finalist will receive a key. One of those keys will start the car and reveal the winner.

Last year around 1,300 students had at least one ticket in the drawing, while 57 students had perfect attendance, according to GHS principal Jeremy Ross.

Cameron Gibson, who graduated in 2019, was the winner last year.

According to a press release from the district citing data from the Bureau of Educational Research in Illinois, consistent attendance leads to positive behavior, increased participation in extracurricular activities and higher grades.
