Free tax preparation assistance offered once again

Posted

Once more, a program known as Tax-Aide — sponsored by AARP and the Internal Revenue Service — is offering free federal tax preparation assistance geared to tax returns for senior citizens and those with “uncomplicated” returns.

The tax preparation assistance is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Feb. 1, and will be from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday. It will be at the Hood County Library, at 222 N. Travis St. in Granbury.

Call 817-264-6363 for an appointment and instructions. This year, for the first time, those using the service will be able to schedule their own appointment time, if they choose to do so, online (https://tinyurl.com/39txdrtt).

Pat Rosetti, local coordinator for the AARP in Granbury, said, “The AARP has been serving residents of Hood County many years, and we are proud to continue the service.”

Rosetti said that this is her 11th year of involvement with the free tax assistance. All of those working in the free tax preparation program are volunteers. There is no charge for the assistance, which is generally for low-income households and seniors – although there are no age restrictions. Those bringing in their tax information for the program will drop off their papers there and be notified later when the tax return is ready.

COVID precautions and protocols will be in place, and those entering the library will need to wear face masks, Rosetti noted.

Rosetti said that she can answer other questions about the service if they are emailed to her (prosetti@flash.net).
