A Granbury High School female student was taken to an area hospital for treatment of what were described by Granbury Police as serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday while attempting to cross the street on foot in front of the school.

Avryl Graham, age 17, began to cross West Pearl Street just before 4:30 p.m. when she stumbled and fell into the east-bound lane of West Pearl Street and was struck by a car, GPD Deputy Chief Cliff Andrews told the HCN in a news release.

A GISD Facebook post stated, “GHS assistant principals immediately responded with assistance from school medical staff, campus security, and other individuals. We appreciate the quick response by Granbury Police Dept. and first responders to transport the student to a Fort Worth hospital.”

Andrews provided this explanation from the GPD accident report:

“When officers arrived, they observed that Ms. Avryl Graham, 17, had been struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the roadway in the 2000 block of West Pearl Street.  Ms. Graham was crossing the roadway while two of three lanes of traffic were stopped.  The west bound lane of traffic had stopped, and the center turn lane traffic had stopped.  East bound traffic continued to flow.  Ms. Graham crossed the first two lanes while moving between vehicles stopped in the lanes of traffic.

“As Ms. Graham crossed the west bound and center turn lane she stumbled and fell.  Ms. Graham fell into the east bound lane of traffic and was struck by a 2012 Ford Fusion traveling east on West Pearl Street.  The driver was unable to see Ms. Graham when she fell in the congested area and immediately stopped when the accident occurred.  Ms. Graham sustained serious injuries.  Granbury High School staff members immediately provided first aid, and Ms. Graham was flown by (air ambulance) to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth for medical treatment. The Granbury Police Department is currently continuing its investigation of the accident.”
