GMS to have Book Gifting next week

Tuesday, May 14, 2019

Granbury Middle School’s Student Library Advisory Committee will have its second annual Book Gifting on May 20.

Every student at Granbury Middle School will have the opportunity to receive a free book to read over the summer. After a group picture, the first English/ Language Arts class will begin choosing their books at 8:35 a.m.

After choosing their book, students will visit with Hood County Teen Librarian Rhiannon Graham about the summer reading program.

The Student Library Advisory group is led by GMS librarian Christy Jonas.

Jonas said the students that make up the committee have been “working hard” in fundraising efforts to purchase books for the event.

Last year, the group manned tables in the library and handed out around 700 books, purchased from First Book, a nonprofit organization that sells new books to schools serving Title I students. The committee developed a “menu” with a description and interest level for every book in order to make it easier for their classmates to make a selection.
