GPD: Shot fired in aggravated robbery incident

Posted

The Granbury Police Department responded to an incident Sunday outside of a local bar and grill establishment in Granbury that ended with a gun being fired in what could result in a first-degree felony charge.

Officers were dispatched to the location on a report of shots being fired. They found that a 28-year-old Granbury man had been inside the bar having a drink with three men he did not know, then all four went outside where “one of the men pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded his wallet,” the GPD news release from Lt. Russell Grizzard states. “The victim refused, and the suspect fired a round into the ground. The men fled the scene in a black sedan. No one was injured in this incident. The case is being investigated as aggravated robbery (first-degree felony) and deadly conduct (third-degree felony).”

Grizzard noted that although the wallet was not stolen during the incident, under the Texas aggravated robbery statute, “part of the elements of the offense include the term ‘in the course of committing theft,’” and he added, “The definition for that term includes ‘conduct that occurs in an attempt to commit …’” that crime.

The three men who fled in the sedan have not yet been positively identified, the lieutenant stated.
