The Granbury Lady Pirates capped off a stretch of six wins in seven games by beating South Oak Cliff 53-48 Tuesday at home.

Granbury opened up a 33-18 lead over South Oak Cliff at half. The Lady Pirates were able to zip the ball around the SOC zone and find open shooters like Gentry Garner, Gracie Nichols, Ashlyn Bednarz and Nina Parker, who all had at least one three-pointer in the first half.

South Oak Cliff battled back to cut the Lady Pirate lead to 42-38 heading into the fourth quarter and tied the game at 42 with six minutes to go, but Gran-bury didn’t panic. The Lady Pirates scored the next eight points of the game, all on layups, and Granbury held on for the win.

Brooklynne Sandel and Bednarz each had nine points. Nichols, Parker and Jayla Hall scored eight, Garner scored six, Courtney Smith had three and Ashtin Jinkerson added another bucket.

Last weekend Granbury played in the Waco MT Rice Tournament, winning the Silver Bracket championship.

The Lady Pirates opened with a 37-34 win over Shoemaker behind nine points from Nichols and 6-6 free-throw shooting as a team in the fourth quarter. Granbury had its worst shooting game of the year in the second game of pool play, losing 40-25 to Rockwall after shooting just 15 percent from the field.

The Lady Pirates turned around and beat Bowie 40-25 in the next game, with Garner scoring 10 points and posting a perfect 8-8 mark from the free-throw line.

In the semifinals of the Silver Bracket, Garner’s 14 points led Granbury to a 37-36 overtime win over Kinkaid.

Hall scored 14 points in the championship game as the Lady Pirates rallied from a fourth-quarter deficit to win 42-40 over Temple.

Granbury’s record was 18-7 following the win over South Oak Cliff. The Lady Pirates took on Class 5A No. 12 Timberview in District 5-5A play Friday, and will host Burleson Centennial Tuesday at 8 p.m.
