Granbury rainfall Tuesday measured at .83

The rainfall that provided at least temporary relief for heat-scorched Hood County starting late-afternoon Tuesday, Aug. 9, was measured at .83 of an inch, a representative of the National Weather Service in Fort Worth told the Hood County News.

That official measurement was at the Granbury Regional Airport on Howard Clemmons Road, near Granbury High School. One residence in Abe’s Landing community, on the north side of Granbury off of Weatherford Highway, received only one-tenth of an inch of rain Tuesday.

The NWS office began receiving rain reports from Granbury starting at about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday. The last notable rainfall here had been on July 14, measured at .35 of an inch at the airport.

The NWS posted a graphic on Twitter late Tuesday afternoon noting that the number of consecutive days without measurable rain for Dallas/Fort Worth is ongoing — and has reached 67 days. That’s the second-longest such rainless stretch on record for D-FW.

The all-time D-FW mark on record was set at 84 days, July 1 through Sept. 22 in 2000. The NSW graphic shows that D-FW had two 58-day periods without measurable rain — in 1950 and 1934 — that are tied for the third-longest.

The area forecast for Wednesday called for a chance of rain in various spots across North Texas, including Granbury.
