Great American Snow Cone Hunt

Posted

There’s a reason the Frigid Frog is the defending “Best Snow Cone” champion in the HCN’s Best of Hood County awards.

In fact, the Frigid Frog has won the award in nearly every year of the stand’s 10-year existence. The snow cones are just that good.

The Frigid Frog has ardent fans that come back each and every year to the stand’s location in the parking lot of Stonewater Church at 911 E. Highway 377. With an extensive menu and a shaded table to eat at, the stand has snow cones down to an exact science.

It all starts with the ice, which is so thin and snow-like that the Frigid Frog doesn’t put a traditional cone-shaped top on its products. Once the syrup hits the ice, the ice instantly starts to melt. It’s a unique texture, and one that makes the snow cone that much more enjoyable.

The ice and syrup are added in layers to make sure each bite is packed with flavor.

The “polliwog” size is 12 ounces and costs $2.50, with an added surcharge of 50 cents for card users.

The Frigid Frog opens each year on April 15 and closes on Aug. 15. It opens at around 2 p.m.

The fans that return to the Frigid Frog each year come back for a reason. This is a seriously good snow cone.

Be on the lookout next week for the next installment of the HCN’s quest to find the best snow cone in Hood County.
