Interested in historic preservation?

Posted

Preserve Granbury is seeking volunteers in Hood County interested in historic preservation to serve on the organization’s board of directors.

Founded in 2005, Preserve Granbury’s mission is to preserve and protect the integrity of the Hood County community.

During the past 13 years, the group has preserved and rehabilitated an 1870s Granbury historic landmark on North Lipan Highway; worked with the city of Granbury and descendants of the Gordon family to rehabilitate the Gordon House in the Langdon Center; published “Historic Hood County, an Illustrated History”; raised $300,000 for the restoration of the Granbury Opera House; and advocated for the preservation of many historic resources in Hood County.

Most recently, Preserve Granbury has been working to preserve Granbury General Hospital with a committee of interested people, nominating the 1935 primary school and Decker Gym to the National Register of Historic Places, and supporting educators and students at Granbury Independent School District to expand local history curriculums.

Current directors of Preserve Gran-bury include David Marshall, president; Mark McDonald, treasurer; Pat Peters, secretary; and Don McBride, Jack Martin and Diann Lewis.

Anyone interested in serving on Preserve Granbury’s board of directors should contact Marshall at David.Marshall@trwd.com or 817-475-0061.
